07/08/2008 - San Diego, CA (Baseball Betting) - The Florida Marlins placed catcher Matt Treanor on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a left hip strain.
In 54 games behind the plate this season, Treanor has recorded a .240 batting average to go with 18 RBI and 18 runs scored in his first season seeing extended playing time.
In five full seasons with the Marlins -- 263 games -- the Garden Grove, California native has a .237 average with eight home runs and 65 RBI.
Catcher John Baker's contract was selected from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Treanor's spot on the roster.
The Marlins also transferred pitcher Lee Gardner from the 15-day DL to the 60- day DL.
